Stitching Through Time: Velvet Paintings are Fur-Real

This event is no longer on sale.

Sunday April 28

2:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

“Stitching Through Time” is a monthly crafting series where you’ll meet to make a project and learn about its history in the process.

If you only know velvet painting from its 1970s parking lot sale incarnation dominated by Elvis, dog poker, and other tragic tropes you don’t know its full story. Painting on furry fabric has a history going back to at least the 14th century, hit a peak in popularity in the Victorian Era, and is actually well represented in Fort Collins Museum of Discovery’s artifact collection.

Join us on Sunday, April 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm to explore this oft-maligned art form. You’ll view painted velvet pieces from the collection and receive all the instruction and supplies needed to create a miniature furry masterpiece (5" x 7") of your own.
